Children's performance is assessed throughout all learning and we currently use an electronic profile to record achievements made each week. This tracks each individual and will build up a picture of whether a child is performing at the age expected level, working towards the expected level or exceeding it. Our expectation is for pupils to make strong progress in all areas and children are also challenged to apply and use their learning in a range of circumstances to demonstrate security of understanding.
We take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously and ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school.
Being a Church of England school drives our Christian values of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control which permeates all that we do – both in class-learning and beyond.
We strive for all children to experience life in abundance without this being at the expense of others.
Our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures. We value the spiritual and moral development of each person, as well as their intellectual and physical growth. We organise our curriculum so that we promote co-operation and understanding between all members of our community.
We are fortunate at Wouldham All Saints Church of England to have a modern, spacious learning environment. This is respected and used by all in school and we aim, through our curriculum, to teach respect for our world, and how we should care for it for future generations, as well as our own.
Inviting classroom environments stimulate and support learners and help to engage them in quality thinking and reasoning.
Learning is centralised around a 'family' theme, which has been mapped in detail to ensure effective coverage, consistency and fluency. These themes change at least termly. The thematic approach allows the school to develop strong, memorable and meaningful cross-curricular links. Every theme has a 'hook' and a 'wow' element to engage and celebrate learning.
Classes are organised into parallel pairs with two classes of the same age group working together and sharing the same foundations of learning. Wherever possible, learning opportunities are mirrored for both classes.
We embrace child initiated learning as well as learning opportunities beyond the classroom and school site. Activities to enrich and support learning beyond the classroom include educational visits, community engagement, Forest School, library visits, cultural activities as well as visitors and specialists coming into the school.
