School Update - 18th March 2022 Covid-19 in School |
Term 4 has been progressing with far less restrictions than we've had for many months. The better weather is making the school more comfortable and we are managing to maintain playtimes, lunchtimes and worship times.
The infection rate is still at the same point as it was when Plan B restrictions were brought in so we're not out of the woods yet and will keep a close eye on local numbers and reduce mixing if there seems to be a return to cross-infection. Currently, it seems to be rising and with less testing available there may be even more than showing up.
The national regulations are expected to change again on 1st April but until then please continue to be vigilant and isolate if showing any symptoms or if showing a positive test result.
If you are needing to isolate then we will try to get in touch with regards learning at home. If you don't hear from us then please check the remote learning pages on the website and if this isn't clear then please get in touch to let us know that your child is well enough to complete their learning.
We have a number of events, visits and activities planned for this term and we hope to be able to make them all happen. We also hope to be able to invite parents in for an event towards the end of term - keep your fingers crossed this will be possible. We will send our further details as the term progresses.
As we have been very disrupted for two years now we are seeing the impact of lock-downs and isolations on how children interact and get on with each other. As we return to greater mixing at playtimes we are expecting a number of children to find this more challenging than others. We will be having a great emphasis on good behaviours, how to get on with each other, kindness and self-control. Please help by talking to your children about socialisation with others - those you like and those you may struggle with. This includes sharing, taking turns, being prepared to step back and let someone else make choices as well as managing feelings and actions towards others. Treating everyone, whatever age, with respect is essential - and expecting to be treated with equal respect back too.
We also want all children to feel confident at speaking out and standing up for what is right. Please express just how important it is that your child must tell somebody if something isn't right or someone makes them feel scared or upset.
As we expand our groups and increase mixing we will be doing a lot of work on promoting the positive behaviours we all need as well as introducing a few new routines to try and ease this as well. If your child is struggling to manage emotions and mixing with others or showing more challenging behaviour at home then please let their class teacher know.
Transport. Please try to find alternatives to using cars. There is limited space for parking and walking, cycling or scootering is better for health.
Children enjoy the opportunity to ride bikes and scooters but please make sure they are safety aware. This is really important around shared pavements and avoiding dropping onto the road. As we enter the darkest time of year make sure bright clothing is worn.
If you have to come in the car then....
Try parking further away (eg Wouldham rec) and walk the last bit.
Treat Worrall Drive as a one-way circuit - accessing it from Keepers Cottage Lane so that you only park on the left hand side of the road facing the roundabout - this will stop any need for dangerous U turns outside school.
Do not stop on zig zag markings or turn in the school gateways. This is very dangerous and we must avoid any vehicle versus child incidents!
Breakfast and After-school Club
Before and after school childcare continues as before. It MUST be booked and paid in advance so that we can ensure spaces are available. We also need to carefully manage groups to avoid mixing.
Bookings are made through the Eduspot Schoolmoney website which you can link to below...
As places are limited and need to be pre-booked and paid for there won't be any refunds or credits given for not attending booked sessions. It may be possible to 'un-book' a place by contacting the office but this needs to be at least one school day before the booking.
All childcare must be booked online. It won't be possible to phone and request a space.
Our approach to remote learning is detailed below (click the image).
Dealing with emotions and behaviour can be tricky in normal times and even more so at the moment.
In school we make use of a system called 'Zones of Regulation'.
This uses colours to help identify how we are feeling and what we may do to improve things.
