Year 6 Outdoor Learning Sessions
Year 6 have an exciting Term of Outdoor Learning coming up!
We are taking every child in Year 6 for a series of two days of paddlesport.
Each session will be a full day out to the River Medway at Tonbridge. During the sessions we will experience kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddleboarding.
Children will be part of a small group and get taken each time by our outdoor instructor Gary along with other members of staff from the school. We will leave after registration and aim to be back for the end of the day but may get delayed by traffic. We will text you to let you know which days your child will be going - mostly we are going on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The first group will be on the first day of the new term - Monday 5th June!
Children will need to come dressed in suitable clothing for going on the river and must bring a change of clothes for the afternoon (in case they fall in during the morning as well as a full change of clothes and a towel for the end of the day. Expect to get totally wet each session! A pair of suitable shoes that can be worn in the river are needed with dry shoes taken for changing into afterwards. Sun cream, packed lunch and a good water bottle to last the day is also essential. Wet suits can be worn, if your child has one, but this is not essential so please don't go and buy one especially.
Buoyancy aids and helmets will be worn by all and all other equipment will be provided.
All activities are perfectly suitable for the children whatever their previous experience. Transport will be using our minibuses. There may be some additional opportuntities for paddlesport and/or climbing towards the end of term after all other sessions have been completed.
We are sure the children will love their next term of outdoor adventures. We will need to ask for a contribution of £10 per child towards the cost of this activity - mainly for travel. That is just £10 for both sessions.
To finish the term we are going to take all of Year 6 for a farewell beach party. This will be on Tuesday 18th July. This is part of our celebrations for finishing Primary School and will take place all day with a late return - probably around 8pm. Further details will be shared next term.
